This is a very difficult post for me to write. As most of you know my parents live in Galveston. The evacuated here to Florida along with my Grammy. My Grammy is so in love with Cecelia. It is so wonderful to see them together. Grammy loves to hold her but she has so far refused to change a diaper. Her excuse is that she forgot how. :o)
I will give the good news first...My brother Andrew had to stay becuase of work. He is ok. We are very thankful for that. He was able to get to mom and dad's house.
The bad news is...the house had about 4 feet of water in it. Andrew got a ride with some military folks and they took him to the house in one of their big trucks. He said when they pulled up you could see the water line on the outside of the house. He did a quick walk through and said that the house is secure the garage door did not go, neither did any other doors or windows. He said the roof looked good he didn't think it leaked. Upstairs is liveable. John is going to go back with dad when he goes so that he can help along with Andrew and Aaron. I would like to go, however it is not a safe environment for Cecelia.
We don't know anything about the office but reports say that the water was 6 feet high down there. Andrew will let us know once he can get here.
We are very thankful even though they had lots of damage. It could have been much worse. The mose important things are safe the people. We were so thankful to hear Andrew was safe. As most of you know Andrew lives with my parents. His room is downstairs so he has lost most of his stuff. Lots of people have asked what they could do to help him and if there were things he needed. My suggestion is gift cards. He is going to have to replace so much.
The most important thing is to pray for a quick and easy recovery. Please please please pray!!!!
Mom and Dad have a great attitude about the whole thing. They are such strong people and will come out on top!

It's weird how you see stuff on the news and think, that must suck. And then you go on with your day. But, to actually know people affected and have been to their house myself gives such a different prospective. I think it is the same thing with the military. You hear about all the stuff going on, but it isn't until a family member or friend is sent there it becomes much more real.
I will echo what Rachel has said and say that we're extremely thankful that everyone in the family is safe and sound. I fee terrible for our family's loss, but mostly, it's just 'stuff'. It is pretty hard on me to think about losing so much, but like I said, the family is safe, and for that, I am thankful.
Your family has been in my constant prayers and I've asked many friends for their continual prayers as well. I am so sad you guys won't be able to come to the wedding and it's hard to understand the timing and devastation of the hurricane, but I am so thankful that everyone is safe.
Rach, please let your MOm know I am thinking of her. Mom is here at my house. Hers was practically untouched but my brothers apartment building was burnt to the ground. It will be a long time before they get back on the island!! It is a VERY destructed island right now.... and NO it is not a place for the baby! WAY too much of a chance she could get some bacteria there!!
